Our wine buyer Jo Eames has come up trumps yet again with this seasons wine list. So, here are a few that are guaranteed to please, and what we think would make really good pairings.
1. U San Muletto Vermentino Chardonnay (France)
Hailing from the warm hills of Corsica, this fabulous blend of Vermentino and Chardonnay grape is light and dry, with citrus and honey notes – A great match for salads and cold dishes – or even the odd BBQ!
2. Soave Classico Superiore (Italy)
This year long oak aged beauty is a Monteforte native, a cumulative effort of a 1,200 hectare cooperative. With its pale gold colouring, and characteristic almond blossom notes, this is the perfect accompaniment for seafood, and salad.
3. Kebrilla Grillo (Sicily) add photo of bottle
Made from 100% Grillo grapes, producer Bruno Fina is Sicilian through and through. This complex medium-bodied wine has concentrated orange and honey notes; a fresh and lively pairing for white meat or fish and chips.
4. Shaw and Smith Sauvignon Blanc (Australia)
Made exclusively from fruit grown in the cool Adelaide hills; this prize winning producer is often credited as Australia’s best. Bone dry and unoaked, its passion fruit and creamy notes are fabulous with cheese (goats in particular) and asparagus.
5. Innocent Bystander Chardonnay (Australia)
A producer with a great motto: “Make great wine for drinking and enjoying, not crowing over”. A Gentle oak aged wine from the cool Yarra Valley region, this medium bodied delight has notes of coconut, ginger and white peach. Delicious accompanied by pork and chicken.
6. Beaujolais Villages, Domaine de Gry-Sablon (France)
Beaujolais is back in fashion. Produced from the Gamay grape, this elegant clear ruby wine has red berry notes, in particular cherry. Delightful served chilled, lending itself to charcuterie, and pork.
7. Marchesi de Gresy Monferrato Rosso (Italy)
This seductive and aromatic 100% Merlot has a deep terracotta colouring, with strong notes of ripe plum and damson. Very full bodied – fabulous with rich red meats, especially steak, lamb, and duck.
8. Seghesio Sonoma County Zinfandel (USA)
A family producer from 1875, these guys know all there is to know. An incredibly full bodied wine with strong structure has tantalizing raspberry, blueberry and spice notes; A fantastic accompaniment with cheese, steak, and sausages.
