Every year, we search for the freshest, most seasonal produce to bring to our plates, and with Asparagus being one of our favourite spring ingredients, we wanted to ensure we sourced the very best we could find.
Our founder, Hamish, was determined to be one of the first to have this years English Asparagus, and like us, Barfoots Farm do things properly and don’t take shortcuts. They also use some of the very best traditional farming techniques as well as using advanced cropping practices. Their nominations of “British Vegetable Grower of the Year” and “Most Environmentally Friendly Farm in Hampshire” prove just how great they are.
Slow-grown English Asparagus simply tastes the best, and the warm microclimate and spread of soil types, make the South Coast the perfect place to farm this and a number of other delicious ingredients. All their produce is grown with love, with a quality that is second to none.
After our first bite, we couldn’t have agreed more, and we’re super excited to be bringing this favourite ingredient back to our menus. Our ‘Dip Your Own’ will be available in the pubs from Friday 25th March and this year we’re giving our guests the opportunity to join us on our Asparagus run to pick some of the first bunches of the year.
On Thursday 31st March, we’re taking a trip down to Barfoots Farm, and are giving a lucky few guests the chance to join Hamish and some of the Peachy team on their journey. We’ll be starting with Coffee and Bacon Muffins at The Fishes in Oxford for 10am, before taking a coach down to the farm for a tour with the experts. A couple of our Chefs will be serving up some of the freshly picked Asparagus for lunch, washed down with some of our finest Sauvignon Blanc, before returning back to Oxford for 4pm. If it sounds likes a trip for you, you can book your tickets online – but be quick, spaces are limited. But, don’t worry if you can’t make the trip, as you can still enjoy this delicious Asparagus across our pubs from the end of March.
We look forward to seeing you soon and sharing with you this fabulous spring favourite!
