We only went and won an Acorn!
Terri Dell, 27, General Manager of Brookmans in Brookmans Park has earned a place in the hospitality hall of fame by winning an Acorn Award, a top accolade which recognises the industry’s rising stars.
Terri was presented with the award at a special ceremony on Monday 17th June at the Michelin-starred Coworth Park country house hotel, where she joined 29 other young industry talents similarly singled out for praise.
Since they started in 1986, the Acorn Awards, affectionately known as the 30 under 30, seek to highlight and celebrate the achievements of 30 of the hospitality industry’s brightest prospects.
Past winners represent every sector of the hospitality industry and have been nominated by their peers for making an impression in their sector. An Acorn is also a life-long privilege held only by an elite group of industry professionals, who number high profile chefs such as Marcus Wareing, Jason Atherton and Michael Caines amongst many others.
Terri was awarded an Acorn after demonstrating her passion and flair for what she does alongside what she has achieved so far in her career, to a panel of judges.
At the helm of Brookmans since February 2017, Terri has had a profound impact on the business, turning around the financial performance of the pub and bringing it back to the heart of the community. She has also built a great team, working with them to offer a fantastic experience to everyone who comes to the pub.
“It was a big honour to find out I had won an Acorn Award, and also a big surprise,” says Terri. “Acorns are only given to those who show real promise, so I definitely feel winning one will be a great boost for me in terms of what comes next. It’s also early recognition of something in me that a lot of people I admire in the industry, who are also Acorns, have and I am honoured to be named among them.”
Chris Stagg, Operations Director at The Peach Pub Company, adds, “Terri has made huge progress at Brookmans, not only after last year’s refurbishment but also before, helping the pub to thrive, wowing the guests and giving the business a bright future.
“We knew when she joined Peach at 24, the youngest manager we had ever recruited, that she was set to be a star of the future and she has certainly lived up to our expectations. Being awarded an Acorn is a major accomplishment and we are delighted to have welcomed Terri back to Brookmans with her trophy and to have raised a glass to celebrate with her,” he says.
