‘Reduce, reuse, recycle’ is having an overarching effect on design (and everything) in 2019, and in our latest refurb at The Swan in Salford it’s proving to be an apt mantra.
Not only is society becoming increasingly aware of the importance of sustainability to the future of the planet, but it’s now easier than ever for consumers and designers to find products – rugs, cushions, fabrics, glassware – made with recycled materials. Happily, we have sourced some like-minded suppliers who help us in making our pubs sparkle – and sustainably so.
The furniture we use is built to last by our expert Rochdale-based supplier which means that all existing chairs and tables from The Swan won’t be skipped into landfill but given a new lease of life instead. The restoration and reupholstery of furniture not only adds longevity, but enables us to fall in love with the stuff all over again.
As a reaction to an overdose of industrial-style design (and possibly Brexit), maximalism is coming to our Salford local in the form of some fab colours, textures and layers of fabric oozing with warmth. Fun upholstered fixed seating, and patterned bar-height stools and tables will give our guests interesting spaces in which to eat, drink or hang-out from morning through ’til night.
The Swan will look bright, fresh and full of personality, evoking a modern feeling of the great outdoors – our love affair with botanicals isn’t over yet. In trying to explain the success of this particular trend, we’ve seen that aspects of our digital lives (always connected, increasingly cerebral) have been cited over and over as being the main reason for our sudden hankering to get back in touchwith nature.
The Swan is the perfect pub to spend a sunny day this Summer – getting back in touch with nature and with each other, over a delicious plate of something to eat and a cold glass of something to drink. What could be nicer than that?
